Iron Ore

The plant was a duplicate of the Hopper 9 and Hopper 10 crushing plant projects previously delivered by a joint contracting group of Primero, RCR and OFI.

Design, construction and commissioning of the non-process infrastructure (NPI) facilities for Rio Tinto at their new Western Range Mine Site.

With a new mine (Gudai-Darri) under construction and with the nearest airport 2.5hrs away, the need to establish on operational airport terminal to service the project was of high importance.

Hopper 10 is a copy and slight upgrade of Hopper 9 which was successfully complete 12months previously by Primero and RCR.

The project involved the construction of a modularised Primary Crushing Plant (PCP) 8.4km, Overland Conveyor (OLC) and transfer station, tying in the new crushing and conveying system to the existing coarse ore stockpile feed conveyor.

Primero was awarded the Turnkey design, procure, construct and commission of the Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) supporting the operations of this greenfield developed mine.

Primero was awarded a four-year crushing services contract for the Miralga Creek iron ore project in Western Australia.

The project involved a requirement to increase throughput at Atlas Irons existing Mt Webber operation and deliver a 4Mtpa BOO crushing and screening facility operating day and night.

Primero provided a turnkey refuelling solution for the South Western mine junction, including tying into existing fuel infrastructure at the SW junction’s central fuel farm.

The West Angelas and Brockman fuel hubs are two important nodes within RTIO’s fuel storage and distribution infrastructure.

Primero was responsible for overall supervision and management, including all direct labour for civil works, electrical & instrumentation, commissioning including provision of all plant, equipment and craneage.

Primero was engaged by Clough Australia to undertake turnkey design, construction and commissioning solutions for 4M litres of diesel fuel infrastructure at primary crushing areas 1 and 2, 800KL of diesel fuel infrastructure with the MEM precinct and additional lubrication storage and distribution infrastructure.

In 2015 Primero self-performed all aspects of the turnkey HME Maintenance Facility Project at Fortescue’s Solomon Hub.

Primero was engaged to deliver detailed engineering and design of new buildings and facilities for mobile equipment maintenance, washdown, lube storage, tyre maintenance, water treatment, power, communications and other services.

Primero was engaged by the sustaining capital group of Rio Tinto to extend the HME maintenance workshop at Marandoo by two bays to provide greater capacity for heavy mechanical maintenance and a dedicated boilermaker workshop.

Primero was engaged by Rio Tinto to supply and install a new Light Vehicle (LV) washdown bay facility, inclusive of associated works at the site of an existing, insufficiently equipped LV wash facility at its East Island Intercourse (EII) operations workshop.

Primero was engaged by Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) to implement a process plant upgrade at its Christmas Creek mine, located in Western Australia’s Pilbara, after having successfully completed an ECI phase.

Included in Primero’s scope was the detailed structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical and communications design drafting, as well as supply and installation of all materials and equipment, including modifications to existing infrastructure and systems as required.
