Stack Cell Upgrade

Lynas is an integrated source of rare earths from mine to customer. The company’s resource deposit in Mt Weld, Western Australia, is acknowledged as one of the highest-grade rare earths mine in the world. Lynas rare earth oxides are mined and initially processed at our Mt Weld Concentration Plant.

Minerals Design

Primero was responsible for the multi-discipline detailed design of layout, concrete, structural steel, mechanical platework and piping for a new stack cell flotation upgrade at Lynas’ Mt Weld Rare Earths Concentrator.

Mt Weld

The Mt Weld Central Lanthanide Deposit (CLD) is one of the highest grade rare earth deposits in the world. Mt Weld also hosts the undeveloped Duncan (rare earth), Crown (niobium, tantalum, titanium, rare earths, zirconium) and Swan (phosphate) deposits. Lynas processes the CLD ore at the Mt Weld Concentration Plant to produce a rare earth concentrate that is sent for further processing at the Lynas Advanced Material Plant (LAMP) near Kuantan, Malaysia.

Stack Cell Upgrade

Primero was responsible for the multi-discipline detailed design of layout, concrete, structural steel, mechanical platework and piping for a new stack cell flotation upgrade at Lynas’ Mt Weld Rare Earths Concentrator. Working closely with the Lynas team Primero assisted in equipment selection, routing of piping and electrical disciplines and overall layout development. This included a new stack cell unit, pumps, hoppers and ancillary services. Primero managed the detailed design through to detailed fabrication drawings and supported Lynas through the onsite execution of the works. The design was installed without issue and provided a beneficial upgrade to the circuit.
