Gas Delivery and Metering Infrastructure

APA is one of Australia’s leading energy infrastructure businesses. It owns, manages and / or operates a portfolio of assets in excess of $20B in value. Over 15,000 km’s of natural gas pipelines connect sources of supply and markets across mainland Australia.

Primero is an accredited supplier of APA and provides design, procurement, construction and commissioning services for projects associated with gas transmission, metering and conditioning.

Energy Design Construct Commission

Primero has been repeatedly engaged by APA, resulting in over 10,000 project hours worked injury free.

Gruyere Gold – Yamarna Delivery and Metering Station

The Gruyere Gold Mine is located on the South Dorothy Hills Trend, 25 kilometres north-east of the Company’s original Yamarna Belt discovery. Construction commenced at the beginning of 2017 and since then first gold was poured in the June 2019 quarter.

APA Group’s Yamarna Project included a 197km Lateral DN150 pipeline, delivery and metering station from the Eastern Gas Pipeline (EGP) to the Gruyere Gold mine site. APA engaged Primero to design, fabricate, assemble, test and deliver five skids for the Yamarna delivery station, ensuring the provision of approximately TJ/day from the APA’s Eastern Gas Pipeline (EGP) to the Gruyere Gold mine site. Despite an aggressive seven-month schedule (with some long-lead items taking six months to be delivered), the skids mentioned below were successfully delivered on time without incident.

  • Isolation.
  • Metering and Filtration.
  • Heating.
  • High Pressure Reduction.
  • Low Pressure Reduction.

Design footprints were optimised for both transport and constructability.

Off-site Fabrication and Preassembly

Primero undertake all aspects of skid fabrication, assembly, and pre-commissioning from our 2000m² workshop in Bibra Lake, Perth. A self-performing approach that reduces margin creep, retains control of the supply chain and delivers the most capitally efficient project solution.

Tianqi Lithium – Donaldson Road

Tianqi operates a lithium hydroxide plant in the Kwinana Industrial Area, south of Perth in Western Australia, producing lithium hydroxide to meet the rapidly growing demand for rechargeable batteries driven primarily by the electric vehicle and energy storage system industries.

APA Group’s Donaldson Road Delivery Station Project included the refurbishment and upgrade of the existing dormant hismelt station for connection and delivery of gas to Tianqi. APA engaged Primero to completely disassemble the delivery station, modify and fabricate new spools, hydrotest, NDE, and surface treat piping and steelwork, replace instruments and cabling and commission the facility.

Primero provided an innovative refurbishment and construction methodology to minimise weather delays whilst providing a quality product. Utilising the Primero workshop in Bibra Lake for fabrication, spooling, coating, test fitment and pre-cast footings were some of the methods employed to reduce time on site.

Commissioning Management

Commissioning was conducted utilising our proprietary commissioning software system, CheckMate, which takes engineering inputs directly from design deliverables and determines the complete Installation Test Record (ITR) requirements for a project. ITRs detailed all inspection requirements to confirm correct installation of equipment to client specifications, design drawings, and government regulations. By conducting all commissioning documentation activity on field CheckMate tablets, a paperless system drove rapid commissioning and line of sight on progress to schedule. This process also allowed for remote client review of individual ITRs and final approval/acceptance.
