The Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project is one of Australia’s largest resource developments and the nation’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) hub.

Wheatstone’s onshore facilities are located 12 kilometres west of Onslow on the Pilbara coast of WA. The foundation project consists of two LNG trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and a domestic gas plant. The first shipment of LNG announced in October 2017.

Primero successfully delivered the civil, structural mechanical, piping electrical, controls and instrumentation works for the Wheatstone DOMGAS Metering Facility.

Chevron is leading a combined investment of $80+ billion in the Gorgon and Wheatstone natural gas projects representing the largest single investment by a company in Australia’s history.

Gas Metering
As part of the Wheatstone DOMGAS processing facility development, Chevron Australia required the detailed design, fabrication, construction and commissioning of a facility that meters and monitors the quality of the natural gas feed from the 300 terajoules per day domestic gas plant via a pipeline into the DBNGP.

Solution
Design for the facility was completed by Chevron, and Primero was contracted to execute turn-key delivery of civil, structural mechanical, piping electrical, controls and instrumentation works. In addition, off-site testing and commissioning of the complete facility took place prior to shipping to site. The facility was assembled entirely at Primero’s workshop in Bibra Lake, Perth, energised and subjected to IFAT testing in accordance with Chevron standards and specifications. The skids were then shipped to site for installation and site testing.

Under the supervision of Chevron’s commissioning teams, Primero performed the in-house hazardous areas verification, dossiers and complete testing.
