Primero competitively tendered the scope, and the project was awarded in part due to the successful delivery of the P680 Primary Rejection project.
The P680 Crushing and Ore Sorting scope consisted of a displacement of the current contracted primary and secondary crushing circuit with a principal-owned and operated crushing circuit incorporating ore sorting technology. All CESMPE&I installation works were performed by Primero.
Primero deployed a workforce of 250 onsite personnel working day and night to complete the SMP and E&I portions of the work to complete Stage 1, with the client’s commissioning team performing the remaining commissioning works. These works were delivered over 10 months and included three major shutdowns to perform all necessary tie-ins into the existing plant.
The team’s success was demonstrated by the quality of the overall product delivered. Commissioning activities from the last CVC to the first ore were achieved after only 2 days of handover, which demonstrated the great work from the team. Conveyor belts tracked from initial start-up and load, and electrical testing was streamlined with minimal punch list items recorded.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Safety statistics throughout the project were in line with all metrics and targets.
- First ore targets were achieved 3 weeks ahead of schedule. This was achieved through detailed planning efforts, constructability improvements and aligned and integrated teamwork and overall quality, reducing clients commissioning timeframes.
- Primero self-performed structural, mechanical, piping and E&I disciplines with the largest lift on the project being a 120tn section of the ROM, installed utilising a 750tn hydraulic crane.
