BHP’s Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) operation is an integrated system of four processing hubs and five mines connected by more than 1,000km of rail infrastructure and port facilities in the Pilbara region of northern Western Australia.
Primero was engaged to provide detailed engineering and design services for Kerman Contracting as they undertook the EPC delivery of mobile equipment maintenance infrastructure at Mining Area C.
SCOPE
BHP’s Mining Area C is an operating iron ore mine located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, 92km North-West of Newman. Opened in 2003, the Area C Mine produces 42 million tonnes per annum for export via rail to Port Hedland.
Primero was engaged to deliver detailed engineering and design of new buildings and facilities for mobile equipment maintenance, washdown, lube storage, tyre maintenance, water treatment, power, communications and other services.
The project required the delivery of works across a full complement of engineering disciplines spanning civil, concrete and earthworks, structural, mechanical, piping, process and electrical including extensive 3D modelling of buildings and other facilities.
Primero also delivered various HSE components of the project facilitating HAZOPs and Safety in Design workshops as well as demonstrating full compliance with all BHP standards and specifications throughout the project.
