As part of Woodside’s commitment to making low-cost, lower-carbon hydrogen-based energy available to WA customers, Woodside is progressing the Hydrogen Refueller @H2Perth project.
Located in the Rockingham Industry Zone adjacent to Woodside’s proposed H2Perth site, the facility will be a self-contained hydrogen production, storage and refuelling station in collaboration with BGC (Australia) Pty Ltd and Centurion, and supported by the WA Government, Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation. The facility aims to supply hydrogen to customers at a globally competitive price.
Primero’s Energy team has delivered one of the very first hydrogen pilot projects in WA; the Hazer Demonstration Plant at Woodman Point, WA and this experience, combined with Primero’s in-house hydrogen expertise and EPC delivery capability allowed Primero to support Woodside’s successful grant submission to the WA Government (Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation) in relation to their Hydrogen Fuelled Transport Expression of Interest.
Subsequent to receiving the government grant, Woodside engaged Primero to commence the Engineering Design and support Woodside’s Project development activities to progress the Project.
Primero’s Energy team completed the Detailed Front End Engineering Design for the Project. This included being responsible for developing the Project Basis of Design with Woodside’s team and supporting Woodside’s specification and selection of key Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) packages. Primero’s team delivered a multi-disciplined design for the Project, including:
- Process Design
- Mechanical Design
- Earthworks and Civil Design
- Structural Design
- Piping Design
- E&IC Design
Primero’s Engineering team supported Woodside with interfacing and Australian compliance challenges associated with their selected Hydrogen electrolyser, compression, storage and refueller (distribution) OEM packages. Primero’s strong Hydrogen experience played a critical part in working through the challenges presented.
In addition to the Engineering Design activities, Primero’s in-house estimating and project controls teams supported the development of a Project execution budget and schedule.
The Hydrogen Refueller @H2Perth Project will convert water into hydrogen and oxygen using an electrolysis process, with the hydrogen purified, compressed and stored in readiness for dispensing as a clean transport fuel, producing only water when utilised in a hydrogen fuel cell, in this case for concrete trucks and other forms of heavy transport vehicles.
